The origin of Spork In The Road is typical of many of my projects. Sitting at the lunch table, my friend Angela suggested I submit comic strips to the local student newspaper, the Manitoban.

I said okay.

I knew full well that I couldn't just submit old Bubba and Alice strips to the 'Toban; Bubba and Alice relies entirely on you having read the archives and knowing the characters. Plus, the weekly schedule of the 'Toban meant that I'd only fall farther and farther behind in the story. No, I needed a new strip, and after some frantic notebook doodling, I had a character or two I could shove in there.

So I went out, bought $40 worth of art supplies at the UofM bookstore, and got down to business. Spork In The Road is the result.

Note: Although I have these two strips submitted to the, they've yet to actually RUN in the Manitoban. So I don't really know what's happening with that. =]
Number One!
Ugh. The less said here, the better. I rushed this one just so I could get it in as early as possible. I *hate* this joke. It makes people laugh, but it's not the style of joke I want for the strip. Off to an auspicious start, I am.

Here, now this one's more my style. Once I doodled Larry (the original drawing is available at my notebook art page), I knew I had to use him someplace. Since he didn't really have a place in Bubba and Alice, onto the hand of Todd he went. (Todd's the one with light hair and no glasses. Dark-hair-and-glasses-cartoonist-man is Harold. Now you know.) I like the dual-punchline last panel, too. All in all, a much better effort.
